Sliding glass shower door is ideal for spaces where a swing door is not practical, offering a sleek and space-saving solution. If you’re considering this option, here are a few key factors to keep in mind:
(All the features mentioned below are applicable to both stand sliding glass shower door and sliding glass shower door on bathtub)
A standard sliding glass shower door (not a bypass model, where both panels slide) consists of two equal-sized panels (for example each 30″):
For a proper fit and comfortable access, the total opening should be at least 57” to 59” to accommodate both panels effectively.
When installing two panels, they must have at least a 1-inch overlap (as shown in the image below).
The standard shower door width (whether sliding or swinging) is 28 inches.
27” – door size
3” – Overlap
30” – Fixed panel
The door will be narrower than the standard 28”, which may affect accessibility.
While smaller doors can be installed, it’s important to be aware of this size reduction.
The height of the shower can be customized based on customer preferences. However, it is important to ensure that there is at least 5 inches of clearance above the shower to prevent steam buildup. For example, if your ceiling is 96”, your shower height can be any size below 91”. There is a different story for steam room which will be mentioned in steam room part.
For frameless shower glass, we recommend 10mm clear tempered glass as the standard choice. While some customers opt for ultra-clear-tempered glass, approximately 90% of projects use clear tempered glass.
